WHY HAS DUSTIN NYE begun dreaming of a girl he’s never met? And why did his instruments throw a fit when his colleague fell dead on the floor of his lab? The Physics of Why relates the adventures of two souls whose destinies cross three times through history, seeking love in the 16th century, seeking meaning in the 21st, and seeking redemption on a distant planet, far off into the future. It’s also the story of Why waves, the mysterious energy that binds them and binds us all.
The idea for this story came as an epiphany in 2017. I had always enjoyed writing but never had any desire to write fiction, much less a novel. Prior to this, I had only written a number of expository essays. But the concept for The Physics of Why was too intriguing to ignore. Though I was far too busy with as a family man and physician, the story and its characters continued to beckon; only occasionally at first, but then with mounting frequency and volume. It finally finished in August 2023, and has since been edited, polished and packaged.
The Physics of Why, like its author, doesn’t quite fit in a particular category. A twisty tale, it is probably best described as a literary sci fi adventure. Some of the topics broached include philosophy, love, religion and politics. There is also a healthy dose (maybe an overdose) of satire.
